The Ogham Alphabet is a very ancient system of scripture, using native trees of Ireland combined to a series of lines crossing a vertical mark or an angle on a stone. Some of them are associated with the thirteen moons of the Celtic calendar. The Pine tree is an evergreen, and one of its old titles was "the sweetest of woods". Its needles are a valuable source of vitamin C and can loosen a tight chest. The scent of Pine is useful in the alleviation of guilt. It was known to the Druids as one of the seven chieftain trees of the Irish. The cones and nuts can be carried as a fertility charm. To purify and sanctify an outdoor ritual area, brush the ground with a pine branch.
