A beautiful representation of Brighid, ancient Irish Goddess of the Tuatha de Dannan, associated with the Spring season, fertility, healing, poetry and smithcraft. She is the protectress of the Druids and is celebrated at Imbolc (1st February). Brighid is the Sacred Fire of Ireland and had her sanctuary in Cill Dara, where priestesses used to keep her sacred flame. Nowadays, a Christian Saint shares her name and her heritage, and in Kildare, the tradition of the flame-keeping is beautifully maintained by the Brigidines.
